What is Sexual Harassment at Workplace?

Sexual Harassment refers to unwelcome behavior, sexual advances, sexual overtures, requests for sexual favor, and other physical or verbal conduct of sexual nature.

Sexual Harassment is the most common type of workplace harassment. Such conduct affects the sufferer negatively. It affects the sufferer’s employment directly or indirectly and irrationally hinders the work performance. Sexual Harassment creates a hostile, offensive, and intimidating work environment and explicitly or implicitly affects the employment of an individual.

As per recent statistics, 54% workers have experienced Sexual Harassment in some form at their workplace. Employers must ensure to eliminate sexual harassment in their organization so as to stop its damaging effects to the productivity and work culture.

The first step towards the elimination of Sexual Harassment at work place includes educating all employees about sexual harassment and right conduct. Managers, HRs and supervisors must be provided additional specific training for effectively handling the cases of sexual harassment. The organizations need to set up a process for handling and properly investigating the cases of sexual harassment.
